On the same field a few hours apart Sunday, the Georgetown men’s and women’s soccer teams advanced in their respective NCAA tournaments with pivotal second-half performances.
In an unusual doubleheader at Shaw Field, the women began the rousing afternoon by scoring three goals in an 18-minute span and defeating Duke, 4-1, to extend their unbeaten streak to 23 matches.
Later, Dylan Nealis made a brilliant individual effort to score in the 88th minute as the men edged West Virginia, 1-0, for their seventh victory in eight games.
The women, one of four No. 1 seeds in the 64-team competition, will host Baylor or Virginia in a quarterfinal Saturday at noon.
