The MLS disciplinary committee has suspended D.C. United attacker Chris Rolfe for one match for a challenge late in the first half of a 1-1 draw at Chicago on Saturday. He will miss this Sunday’s game against New York City FC at RFK Stadium.
In announcing the suspension, MLS said Rolfe committed a “serious foul play that endangered the safety of an opponent.”
Rolfe was shown a yellow card for bringing his right foot down on the back of Nick LaBrocca’s left knee after the Fire midfielder had released the ball along the sideline. [Video here]
The five-member disciplinary committee must be unanimous is its decision in order to suspend a player.
