Y. Michele Kang has big plans for women’s soccer. The owner of the Washington Spirit now controls two clubs in Europe, and her sights are set on adding more teams to her network.
Through her multi-club organization — recently named Kynisca Sports after Cynisca of Sparta, the first woman to win at the Olympic Games in ancient Greece — Kang owns Olympique Lyonnais in France’s top league and the London City Lionesses, a second-division team in England. In a recent interview, she kept her next targets vague, saying only that she’s involved in “several conversations in different regions” and that there’s “unbelievable talent” in Latin America, South America, Africa and Asia.
