Mauricio Pochettino’s first USMNT roster puts Zack Steffen back in the mix

Even with a new coach, the core of the U.S. men’s national soccer team will not change much as the 2026 World Cup approaches. Mauricio Pochettino’s primary task is molding the established group into a consistent winner and making a deep run at the quadrennial spectacle.

But the Argentine-born coach, appointed last month to succeed Gregg Berhalter, will address roster deficiencies through invitations to training camp. Pochettino’s first roster, unveiled Wednesday ahead of next week’s workouts in Austin, reflected that with his goalkeeping selections.
