Maryland wins in extra time … again

(UMD)

For the second time in a week, the University of Maryland kept its unbeaten record intact with a golden goal.

Gordon Wild’s second strike of the night six minutes into extra time Sunday lifted the fourth-ranked Terrapins over Penn State, 3-2, before 5,842 fans at Ludwig Field in College Park.

Maryland (5-0-2 overall, 2-0-1 in Big Ten) faced two deficits but equalized with penalty kicks on each occasion, the last by Wild in the 84th minute.

In the extra period, sophomore D.J. Reeves beat two defenders on the left side and slipped the ball back to Wild for a six-yard one-timer past goalkeeper Arie Ammann, son of former MLS goalkeeper Mike Ammann.
