(NCAA)
Top ranked, unbeaten and enjoying its finest season in history, the University of Maryland men’s soccer team received the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament Monday.
In announcing the 48-team field, the NCAA rewarded the Terrapins (18-0-2) for winning both the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles and carrying a program-record, 15-game winning streak into the national event. They received a bye and will host Providence (12-6-0) or Delaware (12-7-1) in a second-round match at 5 p.m. Sunday at Ludwig Field in College Park.
The Friars lost in the Big East semifinals while the Blue Hens won the Colonial Athletic Association trophy.
