Manchester United fires Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose fate was sealed by an ugly loss

Manchester United’s 4-1 loss Saturday against Watford determined the fate of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was fired as the team’s manager Sunday after the club’s fifth loss in seven Premier League games.

The Glazer family, which owns the club, made the announcement hours after the loss contributed to reports that it was imminent.

“Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision,” the team said in a statement. “While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.
