USWNT phenom Mallory Pugh made her Washington Spirit debut on Saturday night against FC Kansas City, but Pugh’s arrival wasn’t enough for the Spirit, who fell 1-0 on a second half goal from Alexa Newfield. Pugh joined training this Tuesday and entered the game in the 54th minute, replacing Arielle Ship and playing as a left forward.
Gabarra went with a four-back tonight but started Alyssa Kleiner over Kassey Kallman. Kallman had an unusually rough game against Seattle last week, while head coach Jim Gabarra cited a desire “to get our our wide defenders more involved in the attack” as a reason for the change.
