The U.S. women’s national soccer team on Friday will meet England in a friendly at Wembley Stadium in London as the sport’s most decorated program continues its march to the 2023 World Cup.
Interest in women’s soccer in England is at its highest level right now, thanks in part to the European champion Lionesses. The top-ranked U.S. women’s national team and No. 4 England met in the 2019 World Cup semifinals in France (a 2-1 U.S. victory) and the 2020 SheBelieves Cup in Orlando (a 2-0 U.S. win).
Since the Americans won the 2019 world title, most of their matches have come at home against weak opponents, which means Friday’s friendly provides a rare opportunity to face a tougher squad.
