Sam Kerr, the National Women’s Soccer League MVP this season and the circuit’s all-time scoring leader, is planning to leave the Chicago Red Stars to play in Europe.
According to sources close to the situation, the Australian forward notified the Red Stars of her intentions Friday.
Kerr, 26, broke her own NWSL single-season scoring record this year with 18 goals while guiding Chicago to second place. She also scored the lone goal in a semifinal against Portland. Last Sunday, the Red Stars lost in the final to the top-seeded North Carolina Courage, 4-0.
