CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla. — Julian Gressel excelled for three seasons in Atlanta, but when he and the club reached a contract impasse this winter, he sought a new home and new deal.
The first part was completed about a month ago, when he was traded to D.C. United for more than $1 million in financial considerations. The second came Thursday when Gressel signed a four-year contract, including one club-held option.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but United General Manager Dave Kasper said United will use targeted allocation money, which means Gressel will earn at least $650,000 annually.
