Spanish soccer star Jenni Hermoso has filed a formal complaint with the attorney general’s office accusing Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales of sexual assault. Rubiales grabbed and kissed her during the World Cup championship trophy ceremony, a kiss she later said was not consensual.
Spain’s High Court prosecutor opened a preliminary investigation Aug. 28 into whether Rubiales might have committed an act of sexual aggression. The decision followed a number of complaints by third parties and was based on a statement issued by the midfielder, who said she felt the victim of a “sexist act.”
However, for the authorities to be able to investigate the case, they needed the victim to report the case herself.
