MILAN — San Siro stadium will regain its status as the epicenter of soccer on Saturday — albeit without any local heroes on display.
The Champions League final, the title game of European professional soccer and the most prestigious club championship in the world, will be contested between two teams from Madrid, Atletico and Real. There is surely no starker reminder to Italians of the fading status of their clubs.
The two main tenants of the San Siro, AC Milan and Inter Milan, have won Europe’s top club prize 10 times between them, spreading from Milan’s win in 1963 to Inter’s triumph in 2010.
