In a breakout year for women’s sports, the NWSL shows how far it has come

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Women’s Soccer League completed its 12th season Saturday with an ornery championship game played in a new riverside stadium built for women’s soccer, broadcast in prime time on a major network and witnessed by Magic Johnson and Grant Hill (investors for the competing finalists).

It culminated a year marked by record attendance, greater TV visibility and, by all measures, a brightening pathway to long-term growth.
