Germany coach slams poll that asked about national team’s racial makeup

After a German public broadcaster’s poll included a question related to the skin color of players on the country’s men’s national soccer team, its coach slammed the undertaking as “racist” and “insane.”

According to ARD, Germany’s largest public broadcasting network, 21 percent of Germans said they would prefer to see more White players on the team. The team, which is preparing for a Euro 2024 tournament set to be staged in Germany later this month, has several players who are Black, as well as some with Turkish heritage.

The poll was blasted Saturday by Germany midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who told reporters (via the Associated Press), “This is absolutely racist and has no place in our changing room.
