Jacob Montes, who left the Georgetown soccer program during his senior season this spring to pursue a pro opportunity abroad, has signed with Crystal Palace in the Premier League following a five-week tryout.
The 22-year-old attacker from Lake Worth, Fla., joins about a dozen other Americans on the youth and senior levels aligned with clubs in the world’s most popular soccer league.
“To put pen to paper, it was surreal,” said Montes, who signed a one-year deal that also includes club options. “I’m very happy.”
Because he is not eligible for a British work visa, Montes will begin his career this summer on loan, probably elsewhere in Europe.
