The father of Liverpool forward Luis Díaz was released Thursday, nearly two weeks after the player’s parents were kidnapped by a guerrilla group near their home in Barrancas, Colombia. He was returned via helicopter to Valledupar, a town in the northeastern part of the country, 57 miles south of Barrancas.
Díaz’s parents were at a gas station in Barrancas, in northern Colombia, when they were abducted by armed men on motorcycles on Oct. 28. Colombian President Gustavo Petro later said Díaz’s mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was rescued within hours of the kidnapping, but his father, Luis Manuel Díaz, remained missing.
