The U.S. Soccer Federation on Tuesday confirmed Emma Hayes will lead the women’s national team, saying the London native will become the highest-paid women’s soccer coach in the world but won’t start her tenure in earnest until May — just two months before the Paris Olympics.
Hayes, 47, will continue coaching English club Chelsea until the end of the Women’s Super League season. Until then, the USSF said, Twila Kilgore will continue in her interim role and collaborate with Sporting Director Matt Crocker “in developing a plan to work with Hayes to ensure a successful transition.
