Hayes has agreed to a long-term contract with the USSF, several people said Saturday, replacing Vlatko Andonovski, who stepped down after a round-of-16 elimination at the World Cup in August.
Because Hayes remains committed to Chelsea until the end of the English season, however, the sides must devise a transatlantic arrangement that allows her to remain with the reigning Women’s Super League champions while also beginning to implement her ideas for the U.S. ahead of the Paris Olympics next summer.
The USSF has not commented on reports by numerous media outlets that it has hired Hayes.
