The Netherlands team sent a “One Love” message of inclusion on the arm of its captain during the Euro 2020 game against the Czech Republic Sunday in Budapest, a sentiment that stands at odds with a law passed last week in Hungary.
“In today’s match I’ll wear a #OneLove captains armband to emphasize that we stand for inclusiveness and connection,” Gini Wijnaldum tweeted. “We are against any form of exclusion and discrimination. We hope to support everyone who feels discriminated against across the world.”
Dutch supporters brought rainbow flags to Puskas Arena to protest the law, which bans sharing with minors content about homosexuality or gender reassignment.
