MLS’s disciplinary committee suspended D.C. United midfielder Marcelo Sarvas for one match for “serious foul play that endangered the safety of an opponent” during last weekend’s match against the Philadelphia Union at RFK Stadium.
He will miss Saturday’s game against visiting New York City FC. Sarvas was also fined an undisclosed amount.
United’s starting defensive midfielder for two seasons stomped on fallen Derrick Jones’s right leg in attempting to free the ball near midfield. He received a yellow card from referee Ricardo Salazar and was fortunate not to get a red card.
This is so dirty from Marcelo Sarvas.
