Defender Christopher McVey, who in his first season with D.C. United has started every match and on Saturday scored his first goal of the year, will miss six to eight weeks with a knee strain, the club said Tuesday.
McVey was injured in the first half of the 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire at Audi Field. He was replaced at halftime after telling the medical staff he had “felt something in his knee,” Coach Troy Lesesne said after the game.
Subsequent tests revealed a strain to the lateral collateral ligament, an injury that could sideline him 10 games before MLS pauses the regular season in mid-July for the Leagues Cup with Mexican teams.
