D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid on Monday received his first call-up to the U.S. national soccer team under Coach Gregg Berhalter, joining 24 other players for training camp in Qatar and a home friendly against Costa Rica.
Despite being among MLS’s top-rated keepers, Hamid, 29, had been passed over all year by Berhalter, who took the job last winter. The Annandale native has made six national team appearances, the latest coming in June 2018, which was also the last time he was invited to camp.
The MLS-heavy roster will begin workouts in Doha on Sunday, the start of a three-week stay in the country that will host the 2022 World Cup.
