With the first stage of training camp complete, D.C. United cut six trialists from the preseason roster: goalkeeper Paolo Tornaghi, defenders Liam Doyle and Brayan Garcia, and midfielders Ariel Rodriguez, Kevan George and Santiago Dittborn.
There were no huge surprises, though Rodriguez arrived with Costa Rican national team experience and Garcia is a young Honduran international. George made 28 league appearances in four years with the Columbus Crew.
Doyle, a 6-foot-4 center back from Ohio State, was selected in the fourth round of the MLS draft last month and faced long odds with a returning corps of Bobby Boswell, Steve Birnbaum, Kofi Opare, Jalen Robinson and, in a pinch, midfielder Markus Halsti.
