With new players arriving, D.C. United on Monday began clearing space by trading forward-midfielder Lamar Neagle, the team’s leading scorer last year, to the Seattle Sounders for a 2018 MLS fourth-round draft pick.
While the club has already added two players, the Insider has learned it has fallen out of the running for Inter Milan’s Gary Medel, a two-time Chilean World Cup player who was also being heavily courted by Turkish power Besiktas, an UEFA Champions League side. United would’ve had to pay at least $4.5 million in transfer fees and a multi-year guaranteed salary of up to $5 million.
