D.C. United trades homegrown midfielder Collin Martin to Minnesota

In 2013, Collin Martin left Wake Forest University after one semester to sign a homegrown contract with D.C. United. But over four injury-marred MLS seasons, the attacking midfielder from Chevy Chase never made much of a mark.

On Tuesday, D.C. United traded him to expansion Minnesota United for a 2018 fourth-round draft pick. In a four-round draft, D.C. essentially gave him away for nothing. He’ll welcome a fresh start with a new team and reunite with Amos Magee, who left an assistant coaching position in Washington this offseason to become Minnesota’s director of player personnel.

“Collin has been a part of the United family for several years, and we wish him the best as he continues his career,” United General Manager Dave Kasper said in a written statement.
