D.C. United shook up its anemic attack Wednesday, trading Argentine veteran Fabian Espindola to the Vancouver Whitecaps and acquiring former University of Maryland star Patrick Mullins from New York City FC, multiple sources said.
No other players were involved in the separate deals: United acquired unspecified allocation money from Vancouver and surrendered a variety of allocation funds and an international roster slot to NYCFC.
United officials did not want to comment on possible transactions, but sources said both trades were awaiting MLS approval. Espindola did not train with United on Wednesday. Mullins is expected to join the club for Thursday’s session at RFK Stadium.
