D.C. United has released Jose Guillermo Ortiz, an on-loan Costa Rican forward who scored one goal in 16 regular season appearances.
Ortiz is no longer training with United, team officials confirmed Wednesday, and will soon rejoin Costa Rican club Herediano, which in December loaned him to D.C. for the 2017 season. His MLS base salary was $130,000, but because it was not guaranteed for the full year, United will regain a portion of the space under the salary cap.
With the league’s transfer window now open, United is seeking to bolster the roster through international signings and trades before the Aug.
