***D.C. United has parted ways with Costa Rican striker Alvaro Saborio. In 1 1/2 seasons in Washington, he compiled 10 goals and three assists in 31 regular season appearances (17 starts). Patrick Mullins’s mid-season arrival bumped Saborio down the depth chart: no starts and 94 minutes over the final three months. He’ll turn 35 in March.
According to MLS Players Union figures, Saborio’s $535,000 in overall compensation topped United’s payroll until Kennedy Igboananike arrived from Chicago. However, the Fire continued to cover his $900,000 hit.
United has no plans to pick up Igboananike’s current salary next season.
