D.C. United has made its first international acquisition of the winter Monday, agreeing to a deal with the Finnish national team’s Matti Peltola, people briefed on the talks said.
He is expected to join the MLS club at training camp this week in Saudi Arabia.
Troy Lesesne, United’s new head coach, had suggested last week that the sides were close to finalizing a contract. Club officials said Monday that they didn’t want to comment.
Peltola, 21, has played center back and defensive midfield for HJK Helsinki but is projected to join veteran Russell Canouse in deep-lying midfield for United.
