Troubled by neither the reigning champions nor the frightful weather, D.C. United on Sunday launched a season of great promise with a performance that, except for some slips and slides, was as intoxicating as last year’s resurgence.
With a well-crafted goal as the first half ended and a goalkeeping gift early in the second, D.C. picked up where it left off last fall in defeating Atlanta United, 2-0, at wet and wonderful Audi Field.
“It felt like last year,” midfielder Russell Canouse said. “It felt like guys turned it up at the right time. Everyone was motivated.
