D.C. United is planning to sign free agent goalkeeper Steve Clark, a move that suggests the club has lost confidence in back-up Travis Worra and is concerned that starter Bill Hamid might not return when his contract expires after this season.
Clark, 31, played for Norway’s Honefoss for three seasons and the Columbus Crew for three before joining Aalborg in Denmark last winter. In Columbus, he started 100 of a possible 102 regular season matches, recorded 22 clean sheets and helped the Crew advance to the 2015 MLS Cup, a 2-1 home defeat to Portland.
Because he was out of contract this summer, United was able to acquire him after the MLS transfer and trade window expired last Wednesday.
