D.C. United fall to Fort Lauderdale Strikers in penalties in US Open Cup

After a scoreless 120 minutes, the NASL side prevailed 4-3 in penalty kicks

D.C. United crashed out of the Fourth Round of the US Open Cup to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, as the NASL won 4-3 on penalties. 120 minutes of scoreless soccer between the two sides meant penalties, where United lost when Luciano Acosta had his effort saved, and Jared Jeffrey hit the bar.

The big team news before the game was that Chris Durkin, who just signed with the club yesterday as a homegrown player, was handed a start in midfield along side Jared Jeffrey.
