When D.C. United entered into an agreement this winter with ABC7 and NewsChannel 8 to carry most matches this season, ending a long association with Comcast SportsNet, club supporters residing outside of the metro area grew concerned.
While CSN is available in a large portion of the mid-Atlantic region, NC8, which will carry the bulk of the local broadcasts, is not. Furthermore, while Channel 7 is widely accessible as an over-the-air station, it’s not common in regional markets with their own ABC affiliates. What that meant was fans in places such as Baltimore, Richmond and Norfolk would have a hard time watching United matches that weren’t on national TV.
