D.C. United kicked off strongly, and turned their first chance into a goal. Luciano Acosta beat two defenders before being brought down inside the box. Before the Black-and-Red could protest, Leonardo Jara quickly emerged, picking up the loose ball and crossing it to a sprinting Amarikwa, who drove it into the goal for the early 1-0 lead.
