Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat trick lifts Real Madrid into UEFA Champions League semifinals

Cristiano Ronaldo completed a hat trick on a 77th-minute free kick Tuesday as Real Madrid overcame a two-goal aggregate deficit against Wolfsburg and claimed a 3-0 home victory to advance to the UEFA Champions League semifinals (3-2 aggregate). Real has advanced to the last four in six consecutive years.

Meantime in England, Kevin De Bruyne scored the match winner at almost the same time as Ronaldo, leading Manchester City over Paris Saint-Germain, 1-0, for a 3-2 aggregate victory and its first semifinal berth.

The other slots will be filled Wednesday when Atletico Madrid hosts Barcelona and Bayern Munich visits Benfica.
