Columbus soccer fans protest Browns’ signing of Deshaun Watson

The controversial decision by Cleveland Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam to acquire quarterback Deshaun Watson reverberated over the weekend with another team they own, the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer.

During the 22nd minute of the Crew’s 1-0 loss to Nashville Saturday, fans in the Nordecke supporters’ section held up 22 signs reading, “We believe Jane Doe,” a reference to the women who have filed 22 active civil lawsuits against Watson, who is accused of sexual misconduct during massage appointments. After the first of two Texas grand juries declined to indict Watson on criminal charges on March 11, the Haslams completed a trade for the quarterback, who has denied the accusations, and signed him to a five-year, $230 million contract.
