CARY, N.C. — Georgetown and Virginia on Friday did not allow treacherous conditions and decorated opponents to derail their one-loss seasons or prevent a dreamy College Cup men’s final for the Washington soccer community.
They performed as if they were playing on dry land, dodging raindrops and scoring early goals. And by seizing control of their respective semifinals in the first half, they ensured watery celebrations 2½ hours apart at WakeMed Soccer Park.
After the third-seeded Hoyas defeated No. 7 Stanford, 2-0, to reach the final for the second time, the top-seeded Cavaliers ousted No. 4 Wake Forest, 2-1, to continue their bid for a third national title in 10 years and eighth overall.
