Jurgen Klinsmann has named 26 players, including Clint Dempsey, to the U.S. national team ahead of two 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Guatemala.
The group began to gather Sunday in Miami ahead of Friday’s match in Guatemala City. The teams will meet again March 29 in Columbus, Ohio. The game-day roster is restricted to 23 players.
The Americans are atop the four-nation, semifinal-round group with four points in two matches, while the Chapines have three. Two teams will advance to CONCACAF’s final round, starting in October.
Klinsmann’s goal is to secure passage before the last two group matches late this summer and avoid distractions heading into the Copa America tournament in June.
