SAN SALVADOR — Christian Pulisic and Zack Steffen, probable starters for the U.S. men’s national soccer team, did not travel to El Salvador for the first 2022 World Cup qualifier Thursday.
Pulisic, an attacker for European champion Chelsea, tested positive for the coronavirus more than two weeks ago, and although he cleared British health protocols and reported to U.S. camp Sunday, he was scratched from the travel delegation to continue working on his fitness level.
Coach Gregg Berhalter said Pulisic is day-to-day leading to the second qualifier, to be played Sunday against Canada in Nashville.
