Christian Eriksen, the Danish soccer star whose heart stopped during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match last summer, took another step in his remarkable return with his call-up to the national team Tuesday.
The 30-year-old midfielder has not played for his country since collapsing during the game against Finland last June in Copenhagen. He was revived with CPR and a defibrillator on the pitch with the team saying, “he was gone” for a brief, terrifying moment.
Later, an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator was placed in his chest and he intended to resume his playing career with his pro team in Italy.
