As medical personnel continue to investigate what caused Christian Eriksen’s heart to stop during a Euro 2020 match Saturday, Denmark’s star player sent a message from his hospital bed, saying with a smile and a thumbs up that he is “fine — — under the circumstances.”
Eriksen, 29, was revived on the pitch with CPR and a defibrillator in a terrifying scene that unfolded in the first half of the game against Finland. He had regained consciousness as he was wheeled off on a gurney and has been in Copenhagen’s Rigshospitalet since then.
“Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world,” he wrote in a message shared on the Danish Football Union’s social media account.
