Nine months after Denmark’s star midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field when his heart stopped during a Euro 2020 game, he will return to the pitch on which he was revived, captaining the Danish team that will face Serbia in a friendly Tuesday.
The game is Eriksen’s second with the national team. His first was a memorable one Saturday, with Eriksen scoring on his first touch in Denmark’s 4-2 loss to the Netherlands, playing in the Amsterdam stadium in which he once played for Ajax. He received a rousing reception, one that is certain to be exceeded when he steps onto Copenhagen’s Parken pitch, 290 days after he was revived with CPR and defibrillation.
