Since joining D.C. United more than two years ago, Christian Benteke said he has felt the “love and respect” from his teammates and the MLS organization. And though the team has struggled on the field, failing to make the playoffs in 2022 and ’23 and in danger of missing them again, the Belgian striker said he is a strong believer in the path set by the new technical staff.
For those reasons — and for the club-record money he will continue to collect — Benteke chose to extend his contract through the 2025 season, with a team option in 2026.
