D.C. United’s playoff outlook hung in the balance for most of the second half Saturday night, swaying from ecstasy to despair on multiple occasions, fueled by striker Christian Benteke’s scoring exploits but marred by the Columbus Crew’s menace.
When it ended, Benteke had added to his MLS-leading goal total and United remained in the postseason hunt, but the 2-2 draw at Audi Field left Troy Lesesne’s club with a slim margin of error heading into its last three matches.
