Chelsea Clinton and Jenna Bush Hager have joined a group investing in the Washington Spirit, multiple people familiar with the deal said Tuesday, raising the profile of the National Women’s Soccer League team as it prepares for its ninth season.
Others include former Olympic gymnast Dominique Dawes and former U.S. World Cup goalkeeper Briana Scurry, said two people, who requested anonymity because the organization is still lining up additional investors from D.C.'s political and business circles.
Spirit managing partner Steve Baldwin, along with co-owners Bill Lynch and Y. Michele Kang, will maintain most of the ownership stake.
