Back on an NWSL field for the first time in 50 days and fresh off a two-week breather from soccer, Trinity Rodman wasn’t necessarily pulsating at her electric peak for much of the Washington Spirit’s 4-1 win over the KC Current on Sunday afternoon at Audi Field.
But this is still Rodman we’re talking about — the author of defense-splitting dribbles who forms one third of the U.S. national team’s “Triple Espresso” front line and has a go-to move with a nickname of its own (that would be the “Trin spin”). So it was no surprise when the freshly minted Olympic champion cut to her left foot early in the second half, eyed the far post and whipped a deflected shot into the side netting, then twirled her braids — colored gold to match her Paris Games medal — and shimmied for the D.
