WASHINGTON -- D.C. United says U.S. national team goalie Bill Hamid is expected to be sidelined for up to six months after having right knee surgery.
Hamid, 25, tore the lateral meniscus in his knee while preparing for the U.S. team's January camp.
D.C. United announced Thursday that Hamid was operated on by U.S. national team doctor Michael Gerhardt in Los Angeles.
The team will convene in Washington on Jan. 22 before leaving for Bradenton, Florida, where they will begin their preseason preparations for the 2016 season.
Thirty-year-old Andrew Dykstra is expected to take over starting goalkeeping duties in the seven-year veteran's absence.
