As the clock ticked toward the final minutes at Audi Field on Sunday, it seemed as if the Washington Spirit was headed for its fourth straight winless result, and its third draw against the Orlando Pride this season.
The 22-year-old forward, who was a late scratch from the starting lineup and entered the game off the bench, hit a right-footed rocket from nearly 20 yards out in the 89th minute to shoot Washington to a 2-1 win, and straight up the National Women’s Soccer League standings into third place at 6-5-4.
Forward Ashley Hatch scored the Spirit’s first goal of the afternoon, a 70th-minute tap-in off a defensive mistake by Orlando (5-5-6).
