France’s soccer federation condemned “racist and discriminatory” remarks made in song form by Argentina players as they reveled in their recent Copa América triumph.
In footage shared on social media by Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernández that appeared to have been streamed live as he and other members of La Albiceleste were on a team bus, they could be heard chanting lyrics that took aim at players on France’s national team with African heritage. Fernández, 23, subsequently took to social media Tuesday to apologize.
“The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words,” Fernández wrote (via ESPN).
